A long cool weather period high in the Darjeeling region afforded a later than usual 2025 tea harvest and some crisper first flushes this year. Amongst the fresh, aromatic samples which seemed to lean a little fruit-notes, this crisp, floral tea caught our attention. From the historic Victoria’s Peak tea garden with in the Steinthal Estate and grown at roughly 4,000 meters elevation, the liquor is light golden-yellow and offers a vivacious cup. The leaf is a little dark but had enough buds to sing for us and offer the notes we seek of orange blossoms, tangy citrus rind, and hints of flint. This tea will mellow as it ages, so enjoy it soon to get the most of the fresh floral notes or enjoy a few months from now when it softens and becomes more fruity and smooth.
